The Secret To Moisturized Hair

The secret to moisturized hair is to never take the moisture out of your hair. It really is that simple. We spend so much money buying products to put moisture in our hair when we can save money by never taking the moisture out. There are a few myths surrounding moisturizing hair. A few that could be costing you a lot of money and preventing you from retaining length.

MYTH #1 Clean hair means stripping the hair of oil

This is not true. While it is important to rid the hair of excess oil you shouldn’t strip your hair of all it’s oil. How do you know if you hair is stripped of all it’s oil? You hair will feel dry and tangled after shampooing. If your hair is stripped then it will be more likely to break. The best way to clean your hair is with clay. Clay will absorb excess oil from your hair without stripping your hair of natural oils. Terressential Pure Earth Hair Wash is God sent. All hair textures can use Terressentials. MYTH #2 You need to buy a moisturizer

Another myth that costs us extra money. If you are using a conditioner that is silicone free it can double as your moisturizer. This is especially true if you use clay to cleanse your hair. Also,  if the conditioner detangles your hair well in the shower you should add some water and conditioner in a spray bottle to detangle your hair before styling. MYTH #3 You have to moisturize your hair throughout the day

I’ve heard stories of women walking around with spray bottles of moisturizer to occasionally spritz their hair throughout the day. That can get to be a bit much. If your first step of cleansing does not involve taking the moisture out then half of the battle is won. Instead properly moisturize your hair before styling. Add your “moisturizer” then seal it with an oil of your choice.  Grapeseed and argan oil work well for fine hair, coconut and olive oil work well with medium and thick hair.

More Tips

  • Always use conditioner. If you have thick or curly hair deep condition at least once per week.
  • Wear styles that don’t expose your hair to the elements. Excessive heat, wind or cold dries out your hair.
  • Always sleep with a satin scarf or on a satin pillowcase.
  • Keep the chemicals to a minimum or none at all. Trust me it’s so much harder to maintain colored hair. If you really want to color your hair look in to henna or visit a salon that caters to the health of hair.
