Get your curls, kinks, and waves popping! It’s time to ditch the shampoo. Even the most moisturizing and sulfate-free shampoos won’t give you super clean and super defined hair. Many of are probably wondering why you shouldn’t use shampoo. Ever notice how after you shampoo your hair but before you apply conditioner it feels dry and tangled? Well, shampoo strips your hair of it’s natural oils. That protective barrier of natural oils are gone, leaving your hair weakened and dry. Also, shampoo roughens the hair cuticle. For those of us with curls and kinks this leaves your curls a frizzy mess. Luckily, you have options when it comes to cleansing your hair.

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

Apple cider vinegar has natural astringent qualities that will clarify your hair. The pH of apple cider vinegar is ideal for hair so it will leave your hair softer, smoother, and shinier. Also, ACV can be used to treat dandruff because of its anti-fungal properties.  Mix 1 part of apple cider vinegar with 1 part of water. Saturate your hair and use the pads of your finger to massage your scalp. Rinse you hair then follow up with your conditioner and usual styling regimen.

Co-Wash

“Co-Wash” is short for conditioner washing. This is best for in between clarifying washes. It refreshes and moisturizes your hair. This method involves using a light conditioner that doesn’t cause build-up. Thoroughly rinse your hair with water then use the conditioner as you would shampoo. Depending on your hair you may or may not need to follow up with a deep conditioner.
